CROWN Indonesia Issue #1 2022

BACA DI RUMAH

EDITOR’S NOTE

The first quarter of every new year marks a period of excitement mixed with hope and anxiety for performers and connoisseurs in the horology industry. In spite of digitalization, the first-quarter watch fair still garnered the most attention of the year despite the flexibility of release dates.

The LVMH Group has made this a reality with its special watch exhibitions for Bvlgari, Hublot, TAG Heuer, and Zenith since 2020. Bearing LVMH Watch Week to its name, the group chose January for the inaugural exhibition every year. In the exhibition’s third year, CROWN Indonesia spoke with representatives of each brand about the design inspiration and technical progress of the novelties being presented (p. 26).

TAG Heuer is another brand that is no less observant in taking advantage of opportunities. As the smartwatch trend broke out in the 2010s, the brand developed its Connected collection, which combined Swiss horological heritage with sophisticated and modern technology at a time when its peer brands were afraid to take risks. Seven years later, with the launch of the fourth-generation Connected Calibre E4 on the cover of this issue, TAG Heuer remains a leader in the luxury smartwatch category, making it more beautiful and reliable through various updates. It continues to be (p.20).

The brands have certainly done their due diligence in seizing entirely new chances and turning threats into opportunities, showing that the watch industry is evolving in a more progressive direction. This is certainly a relief, given that heritage and tradition-loving industries are often considered slow-adapting. We look forward to seeing what else the industry has to offer in the upcoming Watches & Wonders. Have an enjoyable read and see you in the next issue!
