Indonesia’s world-class curator and cultivator of leading brands, Time International prides itself in being the current holder to exclusive retailing rights or authorised sales points to over 60 of the world’s most renowned timepiece and lifestyle brands. The company also has more than 92 stores throughout the nation.
With its humble beginnings as a service centre and wholesale distribution company in the early 60’s, Time International was restructured by its second generation owners in the early 1980’s, when it became an exclusive distributor and authorised service centre for Gucci Timepieces and TAG Heuer. This partnership with TAG Heuer prompted the company to acquire the rights for other much-desired luxury brands.
Time International’s steady expansion in the 90’s was highlighted by the successful opening of Indonesia’s first Cartier boutique at the prestigious Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta. With the arrival of Cartier in the world’s largest archipelago, Time International was able to bridge a gap in the market and provide Indonesian customers with access to the brand’s full range of products - including Jewellery, Watches, Leather Goods and Accessories - without having to leave the country.
Armed with foresight, Time International recognised a need in the Indonesian market for a leading watch retailer and ventured into a new business category in 1999. The Time Place was conceived and became the first multi-brand fine timepiece boutique in Indonesia, with the opening of its first store in Plaza Senayan, Jakarta. Considered a pioneer in the watch industry, The Time Place has since expanded its reach by opening three more stores: in Plaza Indonesia and Pacific Place in Jakarta, and its largest boutique to date in Tunjungan Plaza IV, Surabaya.
To provide support to these endeavours, Time International’s After Sales Service Centre, Time Care, also underwent increased development to cater to the brands within the Time International portfolio. Time Care technicians are trained by the brands themselves to ensure that they possess the expertise needed in handling the valuable timepieces. Furthermore, each retail store is now equipped with an in-house technician and supporting equipment to provide clients with prompt and efficient servicing while they shop. Time Care is the exclusive authorised after-sales service centre for all the brands under Time International.
In line with the expansion of its luxury timepiece retail division, Time International also conquered the world of fashion timepieces with Fossil, DKNY, Michael Kors, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Rip Curl in 2003. As a great number of its active retailers carried these brands, the company decided to bring them together and created Urban Icon, the first customer-centric fashion accessories shopping hub in Indonesia. This was followed by the creation of Watch Time International, geared towards value-driven yet fashion-conscious patrons.
Time International introduced another entirely new concept store, INTime, in 2004. Developed specifically for the young market, composed of modern individuals who are attracted to luxury, INTime offers the best selection of branded timepieces in a comfortable and trendy setting. INTime now has nine locations spread throughout Jakarta, Bandung, Bali and Medan.
Throughout the years, Time International maintained its good relations with TAG Heuer and in 2005, their strengthened relationship became instrumental in the opening of the first TAG Heuer boutique in Plaza Senayan, Jakarta. This was soon followed by the opening of subsequent TAG Heuer boutiques in Plaza Indonesia, Senayan City, Grand Indonesia, Pacific Place and Grand City Surabaya.
A much-respected company in the luxury watch industry, Time International reached a crucial milestone in its rich history when it successfully ventured into luxury fashion with the opening of the first Chanel boutique in Indonesia in 2008. The appointment by Chanel as its exclusive retailer in Indonesia provided the company with leverage to spearhead more developments in its luxury fashion division, specifically with the opening of Fendi Plaza Indonesia and Fendi Plaza Senayan in 2012. In 2014, Chanel was re-located to Plaza Indonesia, and Time International celebrated the arrival of Tory Burch in Indonesia with the opening of the Tory Burch boutique in Plaza Senayan.
Along with these developments, Time International’s luxury watch retail division remained strong and experienced continuous growth. In 2011, The Time Place launched its first Rolex Boutique strategically located at The Shoppes, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, and just one year later, in 2012, it unveiled the first Rolex Boutique in Indonesia at Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta.
Further expansion was signified by the opening of a second Cartier boutique in Plaza Senayan as well as the presentation of a new retail concept store for the luxury watch market, @Time, which targets the younger, trendy set. In 2015, the company debuted the first standalone Liebeskind store in Indonesia and commemorated another milestone with the unveiling of the first standalone Chanel Fragrance and Beauty Store in Plaza Indonesia.
Not one to rest on its laurels, Time International always strives for improvement and gears towards introducing new brands and creating fresh new concepts in Indonesia. For 2016, the company conveyed much excitement as it announced the addition of two more stores to its growing INTime family and celebrated the opening of a Chopard boutique. It also launched the Berluti boutique and marked the opening of DIESEL in Plaza Indonesia. Furthermore, Time International added children’s wear to its ever-growing portfolio with the reopening of Poney in Plaza Indonesia, Mal Kelapa Gading and Grand Indonesia.
Its latest offering, Project X, is a new unique curated concept store located at Plaza Indonesia and Pondok Indah Mall 2. With more than 20 brands from around the globe, Project X will also be the location for Time International’s first foray into F&B with Sweet Monster, the best popcorn soft serve ice cream.
